One of the most powerful trends of 2019

Self-care is defined as the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health and the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.

It’s no wonder this is one of the most powerful trends of 2019, as stress and anxiety have spiked across the globe.

Searches related to anxiety, mental health, mindfulness and self-care have increased by 170%  over the last ten years on Google Trends.

Apptopia estimates that U.S. consumers spent $32 million on self-care mobile apps in both the Apple Store and Google Play in the first quarter of 2018, up 40% year over year.

The mindfulness phenomenon is also surpassing apps on mobile screens, partly driven by lifestyle influencers, the U.S. meditation market hit $1.21 billion last year. This phenomenon is so prevalent, more than 800 million passengers on 11 different airlines, including Delta, Virgin Atlantic and JetBlue, can access Headspace meditations through the in-flight entertainment system each year.*

Even the fashion world is taking part. The Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf featured T-shirts and gowns emblazoned with the words, “Leave me alone” and “Sorry I’m late I didn’t want to come” in their latest runway couture show. On Pinterest, the stratospheric rise in K-beauty products, home furnishings like floating shelves, and food favorites like Buddha bowls have indicated that diverse categories can jump on to the trend that Pinterest pointed out as one of the 100 most important trends in their community to 2019.
